About HIRD, CHU & LAWJI, PLLC
Established in 2011, the law firm of Hird, Chu & Lawji, PLLC. ("HCL") was formed by Eric Hird, Wayne Chu and Arif Lawji, who decided to combine over 30 years of legal expertise into a successful and client oriented law firm.  

HCL is a Real Estate, Business and Lending boutique law firm providing turnkey legal services for a variety of clients including individuals, lenders, developers, builders, hotel owners, realtors, convenience store owners and small business owners. HCL has two Houston area offices conveniently located in The Woodlands and Sugarland to serve our clients.  

To reinforce the Firm's longstanding commitment to assisting clients with their real estate needs, Arif Lawji has an established a fee attorney relationship with North American Title Company and Eric Hird has an established a fee attorney relationship with Fidelity National Title to provide Escrow and Title Insurance products to our real estate clients and customers. Arif Lawji and Eric Hird are designated as a Board Certified Lawyers in the area of Commercial Real Estate Law and Residential Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. These skills, products and services will enhance the value that the law firm will be able to offer our real estate clients.

Eric R. Hird is an attorney and managing member in the law firm of Hird, Chu & Lawji, PLLC. He is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Commercial and Residential Real Estate. He practices primarily as counsel to lenders and certified development corporations (“CDCs”). In 2004, Mr. Hird was designated by the United States Small Business Administration, Washington D.C. as an Expedited SBA 504 loan closer. Mr. Hird regularly prepares loan documents and closes SBA 7a and SBA 504 loans for Lenders and CDCs.

Mr. Hird is a Fee Attorney for Fidelity National Title, located in The Woodlands, Texas. He is a 1992 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Degree in Finance, and a 1996 graduate of South Texas College of Law.

Mr. Hird is active in the Montgomery County Community having served as Distinguished President of the Conroe Noon Kiwanis Club, Distinguished Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Division Nine, and is a past board member of the Woodlands United Methodist Church, the South Montgomery County YMCA, the Pregnancy Assistance Center North, the Rayford Road Municipal Utility District, and past advisory board member for Montgomery County Drainage District Six. Currently, Mr. Hird serves as a board member of Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County, the Finance Committee of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, director of Montgomery County Municipal Utility District 39 and Trustee for the Joint Powers Association.  

Mr. Hird and his wife, Nikki, have three beautiful children: Alexandra (13), Gabriel (10) and Luke (2) and live in the Conroe/Woodlands area.  

Wayne Chu is an attorney and managing member in the law firm of Hird, Chu & Lawji, PLLC. He has been serving the real estate industry for over twenty-five years, as a managing principle of a successful hotel company, as an owner partner of a portfolio of hotels and as a counsel to commercial brokers, developers and owners. He has been extensively involved in numerous real estate acquisitions and dispositions over the twenty-five year period. Mr. Chu’s law practice is focused primarily on assisting real estate and business law clients formulate transaction plans, manage risk, resolve problems, and close successful transactions.

Mr. Chu graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of Akron, with an MBA from Oklahoma State University and a Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law. Mr. Chu’s broad education background, legal experience, real estate experience, and experience developing and managing businesses are unique assets for our clients. 

Recognizing the importance of having interests and responsibilities beyond the practice of law that contribute to a more balanced perspective, Mr. Chu also focuses on commitments to family, contribution to community, and pursuit of outside interests. Mr. Chu and his wife Andrea are proud parents of Aaron (8), Joshua (6) and Grace (4) and the family resides in the Woodlands, Texas. Mr. Chu has served as a board member of Sister City International and as the Chairman of Bahai -Tulsa Partnership in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Currently, Mr. Chu serves as a member of the personal committee for the West Houston Chinese Church. In his spare time Mr. Chu loves to play tennis, paint oil paintings, and is a loyal fan of the Houston Rockets.

           Arif Lawji
Arif Lawji is an attorney and managing member in the law firm of Hird, Chu & Lawji, PLLC. He is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Commercial and Residential Real Estate. He practices primarily as counsel to small business owners and developers. In his practice, he assists in setting up legal entities for his small business clients and carefully drafting contracts, leases and various agreements to facilitate the growth of his small business clientele.  

Mr. Lawji is a Fee Attorney for North American Title Company, located in Stafford, Texas, serving the greater Houston and Sugar Land area. Mr. Lawji has participated in more than 3000 closings involving both residential and commercial real estate. He is a 1992 graduate of the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada where he received a Degree in Political Science with Honors, and a 1996 graduate of Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where he received his law degree.

Mr. Lawji is active in the South Asian community having served as a Director for the South Asian Chamber of Commerce from 2007-2009. He is also a member on the Legal Issues committee of the Texas Land Title Association 2010-present. Currently, Mr. Lawji serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Houston Retailers Charitable Foundation.  

Mr. Lawji is married to his wife Shama and has two daughters, Alyssa (9), and Sarena (6). In his spare time, Mr. Lawji enjoys reading fiction, golfing, and entertaining friends and family.
