Policy Regarding Attorneys Fees
HIRD, CHU & LAWJI, PLLC deems it most important that each client have a clear understanding of the various criteria used in determining legal fees. These include the time spent, the complexity and novelty of the matter and skill required to provide proper representation, the likelihood that your case or matter precludes other employment, the amount involved and the results achieved, time limitations and professional responsibility involved, and customary fees for similar services. Occasionally, we will quote a flat fee or a minimum fee for a matter. Billable time includes office visits, telephone calls, time spent reviewing or sending emails, conferences with you or third parties on your behalf, internal office conferences about your case, research, preparation, drafting instruments, as well as time spent in the courtroom. A minimum of .25 of an hour will be charged for each activity billed. Your bill will be based on the hourly rate in effect at the time services are rendered but may be adjusted depending on the aforementioned criteria. In addition, we will bill you for expenses such as court fees, filing fees, and approximate telephone, photocopying, delivery, and travel charges. Statements are normally sent to our clients each month, itemizing  the various services performed for the client. Unless other prior arrangements are made, fees are payable at the time services are billed. Interest at the rate of twelve percent (12%) per annum will be charged on any bill not paid within thirty (30) days.

If you are a new Client or your legal matter involves litigation, or other extensive legal work or expenses, we may require that a minimum retainer be deposited with this firm. The amount of the retainer will be based on the estimated cost of the initial work to be performed and projected court costs and expenses. Work on your case will commence upon receipt of the retainer. You will be required to maintain the minimum balance of the retainer during the time your case is pending. Should a retainer balance remain after all fees are paid and the case or matter is closed, the balance will be paid back to you.

If the Client to be represented is a corporation or other legal entity, the signer of the Fee Agreement below individually guarantees payment of all fees incurred by said corporation or legal entity.

This firm expressly reserves the right to cease to represent you and to withdraw from legal representation in any legal matter, in the event payment of any outstanding bill is not paid in full within 30 days from the date of billing, or at any time when, in the judgment of the attorney handling your case, the case has no legal merit.
